EHRP is entering a pivotal moment in its history.

Founded in 2012 by the late Barbara Ehrenreich — whose landmark book Nickel and Dimed celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2026 — for more than a decade the organization has been elevating stories that expose the realities of economic hardship in America.

In 2025, EHRP received a transformative five-year, $1.65 million BUILD grant from the Ford Foundation, an investment designed to strengthen organizational resilience, modernize systems, and position the organization for long-term sustainability. This funding enables EHRP to undertake a deliberate period of stabilization, clarification, strengthening, aligning, improving and building a healthy, mission-driven newsroom.
